OCSC WILL BE CLOSED SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31st (HALLOWEEN) We can’t do our thing and we aren’t doing it halfway.

TIKI TUESDAY THIS TIME! TUESDAY, OCT 12 9pm TOO TERRIFIC, TOTALLY! TRYING TO TYPE TEE words! TIKI TUESDAY!!!
4th annual GO WITH THE FLOW Menstrual Product Drive & Benefit
Thursday, OCT 21 7pm-10pm
We're back! Join us October 21st from 7-10pm at OCSC to gather menstrual products for our community.
We'll gather on OCSC's lovely back patio. Remember to mask up in the bar and not to linger inside.
State Sen. Natalie Murdock will join us to talk about her work on SB 698, the End Menstrual Poverty Act.
While other states and whole countries (Kenya was first in 2004!) have eliminated the tax on menstrual products, North Carolina continues to tax these goods as luxuries.
These products are *necessities* that are often difficult to afford for our low-income neighbors. Students even miss school because they can't afford products. Many federal assistance programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants and Children) don’t allow the use of EBT for these products despite their classification as medical devices. The IRS does not classify female products as medical devices, thus blocking women from buying them with pre-tax dollars in both flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts.
We'll be collecting all sorts of menstrual products: Tampons, pads, cups. We'll be serving specialty benefit cocktails and listening to our awesome period-themed playlist.
This year's drive benefits Inter-Faith Council for Social Service UNC Horizons Program, Freedom House Recovery Center, Carolina Cupboard: Community Food Pantry, 10% of proceeds from the bar will go to the purchase of additional items, as well as any cash donations.
Can't make it to the event? Drop your donations off at OCSC all week during open hours from 4pm-2am.
YOUR VOTE MATTERS! like really, really matters in these local elections. Here’s info on how to vote early. DON’T MISS OUT on YOUR CHANCE TO REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
STARTING SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23 AT 4PM-
OCSC WILL REQUIRE PROOF OF VACCINATION FOR ENTRY.
WE WILL ACCEPT YOUR CARD OR PHOTO OF CARD. We will also start serving inside at a limited capacity. Between now and then, please bring your card to show the bartenders- all advance showing of cards would be ever so helpful!
We will be encouraging people ordering/up from their seat to wear masks. We really miss serving friends inside and look forward to doing this again. Both back patios will remain as is for lots of outdoor space. We are excited to make this step forward and will of course stay on top of numbers and trends and close the inside again if we need to do so.
Happy bday to all Libras and Scorpios!
I wish you all much peace. Tricia
#OCSC20
Well, OCSC turns 20 on Sunday and knock on wood, the weather looks good enough to say - LET’S CELEBRATE! Around 5-11pm some past and present bartenders will be spinning records for us to enjoy! ALL festivities will take place outside and we will have an even more extended outdoor space.
PLEASE ONLY 21 & OLDER for this hang- it’s just not time for the kiddos to be up here with limited space and no vaccine yet.
PLEASE WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE, use the front door for entering and exiting, AND REMEMBER NOT TO LINGER INSIDE at all.
Drink specials including…throw back drink prices from 2001 on $1.50 PBRs and $3.50 house highballs! WHAT?????
If we are in a safer place next year, I promise, this is only a warmup to the party I will throw for our 21st!!
Anyway, come on out on Sunday or show your love any time all weekend!!
We are open 4-2am every day.
Take good care, Tricia
PS. Happy bday to our neighbors, ALL DAY RECORDS! they are celebrating their 11th from 2-6pm on Sunday!
OCSC 20 years old this month!
Above was taken the first few minutes OCSC was open on Wednesday, Sept 26, 2001. We turn 20 this month. I wanted to throw a big party, but Covid got in the way. My hopes are to celebrate this time next year- it’s fitting to have a BIG 21st BDAY BASH for the bar, right? This year the 26th is a Sunday and since we need to regulate how many people are outside and we don’t know what to expect weather-wise, please look out on FB, IG, and at the bar for some last-minute plans for something special that weekend. We would LOVE to see as many of you as possible over the month. We’re all feeling quite sentimental, especially as this weather sticks around…
If you didn’t know, we are only hanging outside these days- masks are required at all times inside to order drinks and use the restrooms. We aren’t rushing to get people back inside, unmasked, but as always, we are keeping our eyes on the data. Because we still are outside only, we have not implemented a vaccine requirement yet, but I want to make a point to say that I stand by all our friends, businesses, bands, and otherwise who are requiring customers to be vaccinated.
If you are seeing this note in email form for the first time, it prob means you just joined- thank you and welcome! Your card awaits you at the bar- please ask for it the next time you come in. And that goes for you too, buddy… You know who you are, you- who hasn’t picked up your membership card yet- we have it for you, come on in, have a drink, and pick it up.
Happy bday to all you lovely virgos and libras!!!!
It’s been a heck of a rough week here on earth and in America… Try and keep your chin up and keep fighting the good fight!
My best to you & yours, Tricia
OCSC AUG UPDATE
Hello!
Although I don’t really have anything new to say, OTHER THAN THANKS SO MUCH FOR COMING IN AND SUPPORTING US- IT FEELS SO GOOD to do what we do! I also wanted to keep you all updated on where we are with respect to the current state of things.
We are keeping our eyes on the numbers and staying updated on cdc guidelines. We feel like, for at least right now, we are going to keep doing what we are doing. PLEASE FEEL FREE to wear your masks inside to order drinks and use the restrooms; we are going have the extension patio open more often for more outside seating.
PLEASE STRONGLY CONSIDER GETTING VACCINATED if you are not already and please definitely consider not coming to OCSC until you are.
If you are seeing this as an email for the first time, AWESOME! Thanks for joining! You and everyone who gets this email have cards waiting for you at the bar/door if you haven’t picked them up already.
Happy bday to all the LEOS and VIRGOS!!
Please stay safe and healthy and with respect to coming to OCSC, check in with your body- DO NOT COME IN IF YOU FEEL SICK! and please get vaccinated if you are wanting to hang out in places like OCSC in general.
Best wishes, Tricia

Also speaking of covid, we will cease to use our contact tracing sheets but promise to get the word out if someone reports to us that they found out they were ill when at OCSC.

BIG NEWS at OCSC!!
Hello!
Writing today to announce we have decided, collectively as a staff, that we are ready to serve inside! We are so proud of the improvements we made to the space during our time off and can’t wait to see your beautiful faces enjoy them over a cocktail!
Starting today, June 1, 2021, we will have a limited capacity for bar seating, inside seating, AND we are opening up the pool table for 6 or less players/observers!
Also, our canine friends are welcome back, on leash always and as before, only until 9pm.
All staff here at OCSC are vaccinated and we encourage you to do so as well. Walk-in appointments are available and free at many locations in the triangle. Here’s a couple links to info.
https://www.cvs.com/immunizations/co.vid-19-vaccine
https://www.walgreens.com/topic/promotion/covid-vaccine.jsp
https://vaccine.unchealthcare.org/get-vaccinated/
On a personal note, though our whole staff is vaccinated, some of our family members are not yet eligible due to their age- PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, if you have symptoms, don’t go out and please get tested and if you are not vaccinated, please wear a mask.
We will continue to record names for contact tracing, and we will continue to keep our extended patio open for the extra space. If you have any questions, please feel free to respond to this message.
Our hours will remain as they have been.
// MONDAY - SATURDAY 5pm - midnight // SUNDAYS 2pm-midnight //
We are very excited and thank you all for your support and encouragement with respect to our process thus far. We are trying, as always, to do best for our community.
OK- I’m thrilled to say… HAPPY BDAY GEMINIS & CANCERS! and best wishes to all the fathers and father figures out there! GO DADS!!
Lastly, if you are a new member, your card is ready and you can ask for it next time you come in to ocsc.
Best to you all for a healthy and joyous JUNE!
xo, Tricia
A little change to the hours open...
Hello!
As promised, we are experimenting here and it’s going great but I have an update. Thanks to all who have come in already! It’s SO SO wonderful to see people and serve you all again.
We are taking temps and names and numbers for contact tracing at the door, everyone is wearing masks to order drinks inside and we are all very much enjoying our patio and new extension, the non-smoking patio!
So for now, here’s the reason for writing… we will be changing our hours a smidge
starting this Sunday, May 2-
NEW HOURS will be
5 pm - midnight Monday through Saturday
2 pm - midnight on Sundays
So tonight and tomorrow will remain 4-11pm. Please help us spread the word!
Take care and hope to see you very soon!!
Congratulations to those graduating!! & so many hearts to all the mamas out there next weekend!!
HUG YOUR MAMAS people! Love, Tricia
OMG- it's happening!
Peeps, it’s happening… OCSC is reopening after 13 months, Sunday, April 18th from 4-11pm daily!
We are so, so, so excited to serve you. All mingling will be outside and we have built a temporary patio just for the occasion. Masks will be required to get in, order drinks, and use the restrooms- please always use front entrance for the time being. Also, let’s start out with NO DOGS please.
Capacity will be based on social distancing so there’s a chance you could get to the door and have to wait. You are welcome to call 919-933-0669 and see about your chances in advance but we won’t be holding spots.
We have done a lot to prepare but I would ask you to remember that we are all in this together. We are trying to make being here the best experience for you and for the staff. Please bear with us. We are strict about our community’s safety but we will be quite fluid about operations here at OCSC based on experiential observation.
So with that, I’m going to keep this one short.
BAR REOPENING- SUNDAY, APRIL 18 4pm-11pm daily // MASKS REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.
Is it almost time?
It’s been far too long since I updated all of you, my apologies for that.
We are all hanging in there and still cannot wait to open and get back to seeing you on the regs, making you drinks, and just generally creating a space where you all can relax and feel comfortable-together!
We are plugging away at some small renovation projects- knowing that WE DO NOT WANT TO CLOSE THIS MOTHER DOWN for anything else in the near future!!! We are still evaluating the numbers, staying in tune with the community, and plotting the best plan for opening that blends safety and normalcy.
How are you all? We just can’t believe that next week it will be ONE WHOLE YEAR that we have been closed! Do I still get to say OCSC is turning 20 in September? In some ways, this last year has been the hardest year of owning a business so I’m answering my own question with a resounding “YES!” and then following up with a Gemini-flip-flop-insecure comment of “RIGHT?”
Anyway, I just wanted to touch base and let all of you know that we are working on getting OCSC open soon but we don’t know exactly when- but you will know! Especially if you keep reading these emails or follow us on IG or FB. Or just walk by and look in the window- OLD SCHOOL!
OMG. WE JUST CANNOT WAIT!
Please FEEL FREE to reach out to me with how you feel about coming to the bar and any suggestions you may have for safety protocols. I can’t promise that we can put every idea in place but I would sure like to make all of you feel as comfortable as can be.
xo Tricia
OCSC's opening thoughts
Hey there-
Since the beginning of this public health crisis, all of us here at OCSC felt a great sense of responsibility to the community that has held us up for over 19 years now. As a team, we decided to close 2 days before we were asked to by the state.
With all the unknowns of Covid19, we agreed with NC's decision to have bars be closed all summer and felt and continue to feel very fortunate to have Roy Cooper at the helm.
When we received word that bars would be allowed to open on October 2 with limited capacity and outside seating etc - we met immediately to discuss and start planning.
I worked with the Town of Carrboro, NC and my wonderful landlady on being able to build a temporary patio extension, I signed a contract with OpenTable and set up a reservation system that we schemed to try and make being at the bar as safe as possible for all of us, I definitely chewed the ears off of all my closest friends and family talking about safety measures and feasibility of some kind of normalcy, and finally we met as a staff again this week to finalize details and set an opening date.
WELL- we all want to open so badly and we want to get back to work for you all so much, but we have decided, collectively, we are not going to consider opening until after the new year.
WE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH, I PROMISE!!
We have come this far and we just think that going into the holidays is not the right time to commence operations. With that said, I want to mention that we support all our fellow businesses that have made what we know are difficult decisions to open- every situation is different.
YOU GUYS, we miss you so much and can't THANK YOU enough for the support you have given us for 8 months now! We couldn't have done this without you and we cannot wait to bring OCSC back to our community!!
Keep checking facebook and IG and www.orangecountysocialclub.net
BIGGEST (AIR) XOXOXOXO, Tricia

OCSC JULY
a long overdue email from me-
what else am i doing?
i can't write a note? i stink. my apologies.
i cannot express the gratitude i feel for the notes i have received from friends and customers missing us- we miss you all SO MUCH! but we do stand by that being safe is the most important thing so we are resolved to being closed until the time is right.
we are hanging in there... all of us and ours are healthy, thank goodness. we have been able to do a few small cosmetic renovations and some deep cleaning projects. new urinals- what? so exciting! (thumbs down emoji, giving a depressing raspberry emoji)
we have met as a staff a few times and have been in an ongoing discussion of how we will operate safely once open- our ideas on protocols are ever-evolving as we know more(and the numbers change) and i imagine they will definitely evolve once we open and all move through a day together.
how are all of you? i hope well. this situation is so terrible. again, i dearly thank people on the front lines from the get-go: grocery store workers, farmers, nurses, doctors, maintenance people, service workers, and all i'm not mentioning.
BLACK LIVES MATTER

SO, we are still closed by mandate as I write this.
Many of you may wonder where I stand on this and I have to tell you that as much as ALL OF US want to get back to work, we are still quite concerned with community spread, our own health, and the health and safety of our families.. so frankly, we’re disappointed in countless ways but ok with the decision.
We will figure out a way to open safely when we are allowed. Trust that whatever way that is will be very different for some time… but we will all figure this out together!
This email is coming to you via a newly published WEBSITE- what???? 2020 and you have a website, TM? Genius, I know, thanks. It’s www.orangecountysocialclub.net I’m so high tech!
