OCSC's opening thoughts

Hey there-

Since the beginning of this public health crisis, all of us here at OCSC felt a great sense of responsibility to the community that has held us up for over 19 years now. As a team, we decided to close 2 days before we were asked to by the state.

With all the unknowns of Covid19, we agreed with NC's decision to have bars be closed all summer and felt and continue to feel very fortunate to have Roy Cooper at the helm.

When we received word that bars would be allowed to open on October 2 with limited capacity and outside seating etc - we met immediately to discuss and start planning.

I worked with the Town of Carrboro, NC and my wonderful landlady on being able to build a temporary patio extension, I signed a contract with OpenTable and set up a reservation system that we schemed to try and make being at the bar as safe as possible for all of us, I definitely chewed the ears off of all my closest friends and family talking about safety measures and feasibility of some kind of normalcy, and finally we met as a staff again this week to finalize details and set an opening date.

WELL- we all want to open so badly and we want to get back to work for you all so much, but we have decided, collectively, we are not going to consider opening until after the new year.

WE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH, I PROMISE!!

We have come this far and we just think that going into the holidays is not the right time to commence operations. With that said, I want to mention that we support all our fellow businesses that have made what we know are difficult decisions to open- every situation is different.

YOU GUYS, we miss you so much and can't THANK YOU enough for the support you have given us for 8 months now! We couldn't have done this without you and we cannot wait to bring OCSC back to our community!!
